Tibetan Odyssey |
This is the classic Tibet overland journey, to inspire and excite even those who have 'done it all'. Flying from Kathmandu, we have a couple of days to devote to historic sites in and around Lhasa, taking things at a gentle pace to aid in acclimatisation. We visit Norbulingka, once the summer palace of the Dalai Lama, now in exile in India, and Potala Palace, the traditional seat of the Dalai Lama, perched high on Marpori, the 'Red Mountain'. In the heart of the old city is the 7th century Jokhang Temple and Barkhor, the inner circuit for pilgrims, which is lined with colourful market stalls. Outside Lhasa, we explore the historic monasteries of Drepung and Sera, once among the most important in Tibet. |

Mt. Kailash - The Sacred Peak |
thousands of years, 6714m high Mt. Kailash in Western Tibet has been a pilgrimage site. For both Hindus and Buddhists, the pyramid -shaped ountain and nearby Lake Manasarovar are sacred, and belie ved to be the abode of Gods. The Indian subcontinent's four major rivers draw from the area, adding to its sanctity. |

A Taste of Tibet |
This four-night trip makes an ideal extension to a Nepal holiday and is a great opportunity to experience the flavour of Tibet, its landscapes and heritage. Flying from Kathmandu, we traverse the Himalayan range and with luck, get stunning views of its great peaks. Crossing the broad Tibetan Plateau, we land at Lhasa and transfer to the Lhasa Hotel in the city centre, within walking distance of the Jokhang. |
