Dudh Kund is a sacred lake in an idyllic setting at the foot of Numbur Peak in the lower Everest region. Trekking to this remote and beautiful place is an excellent and varied alternative to the very popular Everest route. Exploring a region that is way off the beaten track and seen by few other outsiders, this moderate trek offers combines dramatic mountain scenery with the chance to meet with local communities, whose children have benefited from C.A.N.'s pioneering school projects.
We start with a day's drive to Jiri, where the trek begins by following the Everest Base Camp Trail for the first days. Then we leave the main route to enter an area that is truly wild. Here we follow a magnificent ridge, which offers exceptional views of the Khumbu peaks, to reach the sacred lake of Dudh Kund. The lake is nestled in a spectacular setting below several high peaks, and the base camp of 6937m Numbur.
During the second part of the trek you have the opportunity to visit two of our school projects at Ghunsa and Lapcha and see at first hand how the profits from our treks benefit the lives of local people in Nepal. Everyone is assured of a warm welcome from the villagers. There is also a visit to the monastery at Thubten Chuling where 150 Tibetan monks live in exile. We may be lucky and have an audience with the head Lama. The trek ends at Phaphlu, from where we fly back to Kathmandu.
This innovative trek was pioneered by our own very experienced and knowledgeable local staff in Nepal who live in these areas.
Fitness & Experience : To enjoy the trek fully you need to be fit and walk regularly. The trek is graded moderate, but there are several long days of walking with plenty of ascent and descent. |
