Mr.Nadjib Sirat- Afghan
Based in Grenoble and Kabul , Nadjib Sirat is President of the Afghan Federation of Alpinism. He is currently preparing for a September 2010 attempt at Mount Everest (8,848 m. / 29,029 ft).

Nadjib was born in 1980 in the Panjshir valley then migrated with his family to Kabul as a young child. While attending high school at Esteqlal, he began working with AFRANE (French NGO for humanitarian aid in Afghanistan) ensuring the safe passage of young girls to schools at a time when this was forbidden. This collaboration made him a target for the Taliban regime and, as a result, he was forced to leave Kabul.

With the help of several French friends working in the Afghan capital, Nadjib was able to obtain refugee status in France where he quickly established himself in Grenoble , learning French, earning the French Baccelauréat and becoming a certified dental technician. Over the next ten years, he practiced his profession while enjoying many sports such as football, Kung fu and cycling. He also discovered a passion, unimaginable before living in the Alps , for the mountains (alpinism, rock climbing, hiking, skiing, and snowboarding).

In March 2009 Nadjib became a French citizen. Thus began a journey as much professional as personal to reconcile Afghan and French cultures through mountaineering. He was the first Afghan to climb Mont Blanc (4,810 m / 15,781 ft), Europe ’s highest peak, in July 2009. In April 2010 he attempted Cho Oyu (8,201 m / 26,906 ft). He hopes to be part of the second Afghan team to summit Noshaq in 2011.

Nadjib hopes to contribute to changing foreign perceptions of Afghanistan - and of Afghan perceptions of Alpinism
