Siklis is a beautiful village set in the foothills and valleys that lie south of the Annapurnas. These majestic snow-capped peaks, rising to over 7000 metres, are for many people the essence of the Himalayas and dominate the skyline of our trek along the ridges and valleys of the region. Our roughly circular route also takes us among the farms and villages of the Gurungs, a people of Tibetan origin, who practiced an intriguing shamanistic religion and are quite unused to seeing foreigners. Contact can be very rewarding and the local women's groups may sing and dance for us.
We follow quiet forest trails, alive with bird song and a blaze of colour in spring, when the rhododendrons are in bloom. They give way to the cultivated fields of the villagers, where crops of maize, wheat, rice and millet are grown. Climbing to the ridges of open pasture, we enjoy uninterrupted views of 7937 metre Annapurna II and 7525 metre Annapurna IV and the fishtail peak Machapuchare, considered one of Nepal's most beautiful mountains.
A rest day at the delightful village of Siklis allows for further challenge, with a climb to over 3000 metres for those who wish or a chance to relax at leisure. Also included are two free days in Kathmandu and a day in the lovely lakeside town of Pokhara.
Fitness & Experience : The trek is at low altitude throughout, however some days are quite long and at times the trails are steep and narrow. Some days are spent mostly on forest trails. You should be a fit regular walker but no previous trekking experience is needed.
